Golborne photographer opens his own exhibition – after leaving a secret postcard in the gallery!

Captivating photography showing Blackpool through the seasons is the subject of a new exhibition by Golborne photographer, Stan Crook.

Stan, a seasoned photographer who enjoys capturing everyday moments in life, has just opened his very own exhibition at the Tea Amantes Blackpool Tearoom and Gallery, entitled ‘Blackpool – The Main Resort’.

The offer of a solo exhibition came about in a very unusual way! It all started when Stan was inspired after listening to a photography podcast called The Photo Walk Show. He heard the story of a fellow photographer called Daryl Haytor, who would make postcards and leaflets from his work and leave them in libraries, cafes and even between the pages of books for others to discover.

The idea struck a cord with Stan, and he began to do the same – surreptitiously leaving examples of his work in cafes and restaurants… including in Tea Amantes Tearoom in Blackpool.

On discovering Stan’s work, the manager of the Tearoom was so impressed, she contacted Stan and asked if he would be interested in putting on a whole exhibition of his work in their gallery – an offer which he was delighted to accept!

The exhibition had its grand opening on Monday, 31 July, and Stan was on hand to chat to visitors about his work.

Fittingly, his Blackpool exhibition is all about the town hosting it – taking the visitor on a visual journey through the iconic seaside town, capturing the changes of the seasons and the ‘essence’ of the place – and the people – throuhout the year.

From the balmy days of summer to the harsh beauty of winter, each photograph tells a unique story, immersing you in the charm and character of this beloved coastal destination.

So, what’s next for Stan Crook?

Stan, who has a keen interest in local history, is a retired engineer and a keen traveller. He lives in Golborne and you may remember the photo tour he kindly did for us at Lowton and Golborne News a few years back, when he captured all of our local Grade 2 listed buildings on camera.

Now Stan has plans to turn his Blackpool photography into a book or magazine, alongside his photos of another favourite resort, New Brighton. He has taken inspiration from the style of photographer Martin Parr – although he says that whilst Martin’s images of Blackpool from the 1980s showed a much run-down seaside resort, he’s happy to report his will be much more positive!
