Newton Town Show goes virtual

With the popular annual Newton Town Show unable to go ahead in person this month, organisers have instead come up with an ingenious way to let you enjoy the festivities from home!

The event, organised each year by the Newton & Earlestown Community Group, would usually be held at Mesnes Park and attract thousands of visitors – enjoying performances by local dancers, admiring classic cars, browsing craft stalls and enjoying some delicious food and drink.

The coronavirus outbreak might mean that this gathering can’t take place in person – but there’s no need to miss out on the fun!

Instead, head over to the Newton Town Show website and settle back to enjoy lots of videos and interactive challenges to mark the weekend.

You’ll find specially made videos from those who should’ve been performing – from local dancers and singers to headline act, Stannage Stunt Team – and not to forget, firm Town Show favourites, Mucky Mountains Morris Dancers.

There’s a chance to browse the classic cars online, vote for your favourite pet in a virtual dog show and even browse the stalls that should’ve been at the show, finding out about some of the organisations and small businesses behind them, too.

The show even hopes to inspire you to embrace your creative side – with an online exhibition of local art and the opportunity to submit your own poem which will be part of an ongoing project in the town.

It’s clear that lots of work has gone into the creation of this online show – so please take a look at what’s on offer, it’s sure to put a smile on your face!

And, once you’ve enjoyed the virtual show, get the date in your diary for next year – Saturday, 7 August, 2021!

Did you miss?
