A three-year headline sponsorship deal has been struck between Moss Industrial Estate in Leigh and Leigh Cricket Club.
The one-hundred-year-old family business, which owns and manages 620,000 sq.ft. of prime industrial property on St. Helen’s Road in Leigh, has supported Leigh Cricket Club for many years and has now become the club’s main headline sponsor, with the distinctive Moss logo proudly displayed on the front of its kit this season.
William Moss, the second generation of the Moss family to run the family business, helped to build the cricket club’s old clubhouse and pavilion back in the late 1950s. While his son, Walter, was also a 2nd XI player and later an umpire at the club so it’s very close to the heart of current owner, and fifth generation of the Moss family, Sebastian Moss.
Moss Industrial Estate is home to a wide range of businesses with national brands, such as Abel and Cole and Siemens; local institutions, such as the Atherton and Leigh Foodbank; and an increasing number of customer-facing businesses, including Seafresh, Tumbles Academy, and My Pets Vets.
The sponsorship deal follows the business’ pledge last year to support its tenants with the rising cost of energy by lowering their energy costs through a £500k investment in solar panels, which has since been increased further to drive a more sustainable and energy efficient industrial estate.
Neill Wood, managing director of Moss Industrial Estate, said: “We are really proud to support Leigh Cricket Club by becoming their headline sponsor for the next three years.
“George Moss & Sons was founded in Leigh over one hundred years ago and with such a deep-rooted family connection to the club and the local community, we are very proud to keep our relationship going with future generations.
“We wish the team the very best of luck this season and we’re looking forward to watching them play wearing their new Moss shirts.”
Mike Brereton, chair of Leigh Cricket Club, said: “On behalf of everybody at the club, we would once again like to thank Neill, Sebastian and everyone at Moss Industrial Estate for their incredible support and generous sponsorship of Leigh Cricket Club.
“We pride ourselves on being a club at the heart of the community, providing opportunity for everyone, and this sponsorship really helps us to develop. We are extremely grateful to Moss and we’re proud to wear the name on our fantastic new kit.”
