Community Centre’s call out for Trustees

by Editor

Would you like to get more involved with your community and be a part of the volunteer management committee who help run Church Lane Community Centre in Lowton?

New trustees are needed, as well as committee members to join the Community Centres’ board.

The Church Lane Community Centre – close to Lowton’s Co-Op – is currently used by groups including yoga, karate, craft clubs and an after school provision. The room can also be hired at very low cost for children’s parties and other uses. It makes the Community Centre a really valuable space in our town.

The centre is overseen by local charity, Douglas Valley Community, based in Wigan, and depends on volunteers to help run it – for example, organising bookings, opening and locking up the room and overseeing the maintenance. This is led by Trustees, who take day-to-day responsibility for managing the charity and Church Lane Community Centre. And now more such volunteers are needed.

Douglas Valley Community are particularly looking for Trustees who can provide strategic direction and oversight, working independently and as a group with our Trustees. They would particularly like to hear from people with a background in corporate/charity legislation and those with finance experience. But even if that doesn’t sound exactly like your background, they’d still like to hear from you if you think you have the skills, knowledge & experience to help.

Previous board or committee experience is useful, but not essential. Training & support is available to any new Trustees to support them in their role.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a role in the management of a local charity and a key local community asset. Trustee positions are unpaid, but you will be able to claim reasonable expenses, which could include costs such as travel.

If you’re interested and would like to know more, please email churchlane@douglasvalley.org.uk with your details.
