Singing Millies win Gold

by Editor

A Golborne-based singing group are celebrating after scooping a Gold medal in a women’s barbershop competition.

Milltown Sound Chorus, who rehearse at Golborne Parkside Sports and Community Club, took the top prize in the Sweet Adelines competition in Gateshead earlier this month.

This friendly group of female singers, who range in age from 14-74 call themselves the Millies for short – and say they would love to hear from potential new members.

They have one thing in common – they all love singing – and the group gives them a chance to do so regularly, make new friends, perform for others and even use their hobby to raise money for good causes.

In order to come top in the recent Sweet Adelines competition, the group beat off competition from 16 other choral groups from across the UK and Holland. They were named winners in the category for a small chorus, with less than 30 women.

But it’s not the group’s first taste of success – they have been previous Silver and Gold winners in recent years too.

Would you like to join the Millies?

Milltown Sound Chorus rehearse every Wednesday at Golborne Parkside from 8-10pm and say that new members are very welcome to pop in and see if they’d like to join.
