Lowton’s historic Hare & Hounds pub has re-opened her doors after a 10 day, £250,000 refurbishment – and there’s been a significant improvement!
The grand re-opening took place on Thursday, 12 March and was the first chance to see how this 300-year-old pub has been lovingly updated as part of its transformation to a local Sizzling Pub & Grill. The ribbon was cut by Mayor of Wigan, Cllr Stephen Dawber before the first pints were pulled.
The pub has had a thorough paint job on the outside, with an exciting new colour scheme, too.
But that’s not the only change outside. For sunny days or summer evenings, the Hare & Hounds offers a far more attractive outside space with improved lighting and all new outside furniture.
Inside, the old children’s play area has gone, with the space opened up to become a far more attractive, lighter and brighter area for dining.

What’s on offer at the Hare & Hounds?
One re-open, the pub will be offering an extended food service, from 12 midday until 9pm (instead of 8pm) and for every adult that dines, kids eat for just £1 every weekday evening between 3-7pm.
The menu will contain a number of tempting offers, including the popular burger & a drink deal, Golden Years two and three course menus, and a Lunch Bites menu with free soft drink.
There’ll also be a range of great offers at the bar, including double up spirits from £1.25.
Call in on Fridays and enjoy Karaoke from 9.30pm until midnight.
A new chapter in the incredible history of the Hare & Hounds
Having stood proudly on the crossroads in Lowton since the 17th Century, the Hare & Hounds is one of Lowton’s most loved landmarks.
After this £250,000 refurb the pub is back to looking her best.
Chris Monks, who has been manager at the Hare & Hounds since last July, says his focus is on keeping the Hare & Hounds as a family-friendly community pub where you can get great value food from the Sizzling Pub & Grill menu. It means the Hare & Hounds will continue to be a “good old fashioned local pub” – somewhere you can get good ale and enjoy a drink with family and friends in a friendly and attractive environment. Plus, the pub will continue to offer sports fans a fantastic programme of live football, rugby, cricket, golf, horse racing and more.
He said: “The whole team are really excited for our remodel to Sizzling. It will make such a difference for the local community, especially the outside of the building which is being fully decorated too.
