Have your say on plans for Golborne Park

by Editor

With money available from local developers, Wigan Council now plans to make improvements to Golborne Park – and it wants your help to shape a masterplan.

In the 1990s, Golborne Park (known as The Bonk) underwent a transformation from an industrial coal pit into a public space, with the aim of hosting a variety of activities and opportunities to enjoy green space.

Now Wigan Council hopes to enhance this by developing a comprehensive master plan for Golborne Park – something that has been previously requested by local people in various consulation exercises.

Back in 2021, the council asked for residents’ views on how money generated through Section 106 monies from local housing developers should be spent, and improvements to Golborne Park and its surrounding open spaces were among the most popular to come out of the survey.

So if you’re interested in helping this public space be improved, now’s the time to have your say by completing the survey.

You have until Friday, 22 March to have your say.

It’s a chance to let them know whether you’d prefer to see new play equipment or new nature areas in the park – and whether you’d prioritise work to reduce flooding, or work to enhance security. Maybe you think all these options need to be included!

Fill in the survey and give your opinion – whether you’re a frequent visitor to Golborne Park or not.
