Lowton WI sing together for first time since COVID at Christmas celebration

by Editor Lowton and Golborne News

There was singing and laughter when the ladies of Lowton WI got together for their Christmas celebration last week.

This year the Christmas party felt extra special – as all festive celebrations do following life under COVID restrictions!

Lynn Halliwell, from Lowton WI, said: “There was a lot of excitement and anticipation as to what to expect but true to form our WI had a fabulous evening.”

The group enjoyed a hot pot supper, followed by games and a raffle – all with COVID safe measures in place. Long-standing members received certificates to mark 10 years of membership. Margaret Thornton had even reached the 20 year milestone! And in those decades the ladies have been a big part of the fundraising and community work of the group – so, congratulations and thank yous were in order!

Lynn added: “Bringing the evening to a close our choir sang Christmas carols, although just a little bit rusty as we hadn’t sung together for a couple of years! We did get a fit of the giggles, which in turn had the members laughing and singing along with us.

“Sadly, due to COVID Santa couldn’t visit this year but nevertheless,we each brought a secret Santa gift to pass on so no-one left empty handed.”

New members are always welcome – why not make 2022 the year you join?

Lowton WI meetings will resume again on the first Thursday of February 2022, and monthly thereafter. The meetings take place at Lowton Social Club on Newton Road, starting at 7.15pm.

If you are looking for a new social interest in the new year, phone Val Barrow on 07419335330 for details – the group would love to welcome you as a visitor, and you can try out a meeting to see if you might also enjoy becoming a member.
