Local business, George Moss & Sons Ltd, has appointed a new Managing Director to drive the family business forward as it enters its second century.
Neill Wood has been appointed by the current owner of the one-hundred-year-old family business, Sebastian Moss, to drive the growth and sustainability of Moss Industrial Estate, on the Leigh / Lowton border, and to share the strategic and operational leadership of the business.
George Moss & Sons celebrated its 100th birthday last September by releasing a special centenary video which features local people who worked for the business back in the 1940s, 50s and 60s, at a time when it built many of the town’s local landmarks.
Prior to joining George Moss & Sons Ltd, Neill was the financial controller of City Football Group, where he was responsible for the group’s financial accounting, risk management and finance systems as well as all the external reporting for Manchester City Football Club.
After graduating from Loughborough University in 2006, Neill completed the graduate programme with EY (Ernst & Young) and qualified as a chartered accountant in 2010. He then spent seven years consulting with EY including secondments with RBS, Thomas Cook and Microsoft, based in Dublin and then at its head office in Seattle, where he led the global rollout of new accounting software.”
Neill and Sebastian go back a long way, having first met at university. So when Sebastian was looking for someone to support him with the growth of the family business which he has inherited, trust was at the top of the job spec.
Sebastian Moss, owner of George Moss & Sons Ltd, said: “This is a really exciting appointment for our family business. Neill is someone I have known personally for many years and trust implicitly. He brings a wealth of experience to George Moss & Sons that will be of great value to the business both now and in the future.
“As we enter our second century, our first priority is making the industrial estate fit for the future and that will mean a significant focus on sustainability and ensuring that we are doing everything we can to reduce our impact on the environment. This includes looking after our tenants and making sure that they benefit from a greener environment and improved health and wellbeing at work. Neill’s business acumen and ambition will prove instrumental as we look ahead to the next 100 years for our company.”
Neill said: “I have a huge amount of respect for Sebastian, and the whole Moss family, who I have had had the pleasure of knowing personally for many years.
“It is both a huge privilege and a great responsibility to protect this important family business, which is rich in history and deeply rooted in the local community. But it is also a great opportunity and one which I am very excited to be a part of. I am honoured that they have put their trust in me and I look forward to supporting the future growth and success of the company and protecting it for future generations of the Moss family.”
