Fundraising appeal after Lowton defibrillator is stolen

by Editor

A fundraising appeal has been launched after a life-saving defibrillator was stolen from Lowton.

The piece of kit, which can save a life, was stolen from the converted red phone box on the corner of Slag Lane and Crow Wood Road, sometime on Monday, 29 January.

Now the Lowton West Defibrillator Fund, who raised the money for the equipment in the first place, have begun the process of appealing for donations once again.

A crowd funding page has been set up, with the target of raising £1,000 for the replacement defibrillator. It has already reached £300 – and the group are asking people please to give whatever they can afford.

About the Lowton defibrillator

This old red phonebox on Slag Lane in Lowton hs been given a new lease of life as a defibrillator cabinet

The defibrillator unit replaced the old telephone handset in the Slag Lane telephone box.

This defibrillator was fitted into a former red telephone box on Slag Lane, Lowton, in January 2020.

The decommissioned classic phone box had been saved by a group of locals, who were inspired by one resident who had sadly lost an adult son to a heart attack at just 30-years-old. This person, who wants to remain anonymous, launched a fundraising campaign to have the phonebox converted, raising £3,000 to cover the cost.

The group, who formed the Lowton West Defibrillator Fund, also gave up their time to convert the phone box, giving it a much-needed makeover to restore it to its former glory.

If you can help raise the money needed to replace this life-saving equipment, please check out their fundraising page and give what you can.
