Corrie stars swap The Rovers for The Red Lion!

by Editor Lowton and Golborne News

If you popped in for a pint at the Red Lion in Lowton last week, you may have been served a pint pulled by Coronation Street’s very own Gary Windass!

In fact, actor Mikey North – who plays Gary – was joined by two of his co-stars – Sair Kahn (who plays Alya Nazir) and Julia Goulding (Shona Platt) on the ITV soap.

The trio spent an hour pulling pints and chatting with customers at an event organised by Red Lion Manager Laura Cotter to raise awareness of drug and alcohol problems.

Local families came along to the pub for a chance to meet their Coronation Street heroes – and find out if they are anything like the characters they play.

Pub manager Laura said: “I love all the soaps, so getting a visit from these actors was better than a visit from the queen for me!

“And they were all just so down to earth – really nice and friendly, and very happy to take the time to stand and chat with the customers. It was just a really nice family event, we had lots of kids here, too.”

Laura explained that the event came about thanks to one of her regular customers, who does a lot of work for people with mental health issues, including alcohol and drug related issues. The three actors were chosen as their characters have all had their brushes with mental health issues on the soap.

And for the Red Lion, it was great to see lots of new faces coming along, both to meet their favourite Coronation Street stars, but also to come along to the pub, perhaps for the first time in a while.
