A couple from Lowton are celebrating 60 years of happy marriage today.
James and Rosita Lawlor have lived in Lowton for 45 years, raising their two daughters in the town after moving here from St Helens.
Sadly, the couple aren’t able to hold a huge celebration to mark their diamond anniversary, due to the current lockdown, but their family are making sure they won’t be short of wellwishers on their big day!
James and Rosita are looking forward to a slap up lunch delivered from The Robin Hood at Pennington – the same place they celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary 10 years ago. Meanwhile, friends and family will be joining in a toast to their long and happy mariage remotely – either by phone, video call or maybe even a wave from the driveway!
Daughter Julie Houston said: “They really are and always have been the perfect couple still in love after all these years.
“We had hoped to celebrate at the Robin Hood as we did for their golden anniversary, but sadly that was not to be. We are sticking to the rules so will say hello from the driveway but there are lots of phone calls planned for family and friends far and wide.”
Sixty years ago, James and Rosita spent their honeymoon in London and attended the then popular Sunday Night at the London Paladium.
They both originally hailed from St Helens and lived in Dorset, Bristol and Stafford before finally settling in Lowton.
Rosita worked in the office at GW Collins in Haydock, whilst James worked as a prison officer and was a governor at Risley Prison until he retired. He was involved with the Butler Trust, and as part of his charitable work was invited to attend a charity event at Buckingham Palace, where the couple met Princess Anne.
They have two daughters, Julie and Carole as well as three grandchildren and four beautiful great-grandchildren.
The couple love to travel and have visited lots of places around the world, including visiting family in Australia.
We wish you a very happy diamond wedding anniversary James and Rosita, and hope you get to jet off on a holiday very soon!
