Fifteen local volunteers teamed up with Forestry England staff to carry out some winter maintenance at Byrom Hall Woods in Lowton this week.
The first of three Volunteer Woodland Management days took place on Wednesday, 10 January.
The weather was cold but dry as the group helped to clear trees on either side of the very muddy path leading to the North Field. They made great progress – and the benefit should be felt by people walking in the woods in the coming spring and summer months.
And there are two more opportunities to get involved coming up soon.
So if you love Byrom Wood, why not give some of your time to help care for this special place this New Year?
The next two Volunteer Woodland Management Days take place on Wednesday 7 February and Thursday 7 March, from 10am – 3pm.
You don’t need any experience – just enthusiasm! Guidance and all tools will be provided – but you should wear warm clothing (waterproofs recommended!) that you don’t mind getting dirty and sturdy footwear.
Tea, coffee, water and biscuits will be provided, but please bring yourself a packed lunch, too.
