Unwanted uniform shop to help families with cost of schoolwear

by Editor

With worries growing about the rising cost of living, one local woman has decided to do something to help families out at what can already be an expensive time of year.

Kerry Bamber from Golborne is setting up a second hand school uniform shop online – where people can order pre-worn uniform and PE kits donated by people who no longer need them.

The idea is to provide a way for piece sof uniform that have been outgrown to be re-used, and to reduce the costs for families worried about kitting out their kids in time for a new term in September. All items of uniform will be free, and as they’re ordered online there’s no need for anyone to feel worried about asking for help.

Now Kerry is appealing for anyone with old items of school uniform from our local schools to get in touch before 7 August. The online shop will go live on 10 August.

She said: “Every year the cost of uniforms is a worry for many families. This year I myself am having to think about how I’m going to budget for my children’s uniforms due to the rise in the cost of living – and my children live in a household where both parents work full time.

“I feel so sad that there are parents who 100% will have to make choices between other essentials and uniforms, which is why I wanted to set this up. I didnt know if people would support the idea but I thought it was worth a try.

“Golborne and Lowton are a lovely community, I think helping each other as much as we can in difficult times is how we will all get through.”

What a sensible idea to help struggling families.
