Support and funding for Community Groups during lockdown

by gemmamelling

Community groups in need of additional support as a result of the current lockdown are being urged to contact Wigan Council’s Community Deal Officer for Lowton and Golborne.

Cath Jones is making arrangements for a Community Network Meeting next month, but in the meantime is asking that groups who need advice before then get in contact now.

She would also love to hear from any groups who have good ideas or examples of how they’ve successfully responded to the pandemic to share with others. This could be how you’ve managed to keep in touch with your members, activities you have done or are planning to do remotely.

If you are involved with a Community Group, you can contact Cath Jones on 07739435060 or at Catherine.jones@wigan.gov.uk.

Funding may be available

Community groups in Lowton and Golborne are also being invited to consider applying for funding from the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport and National Lottery Community Fund’s new ‘Local Connections Fund’.

The fund is available to small organisations who are helping to reduce loneliness and social isolation and bringing communities together. Up to £2,500 may be available for these groups to run an eight week project during February and March.

A training session will take place on Friday, 15 January at 10am, for anyone interested to find out more. It will be run by Tracy Wormald and group representatives can book their place online now.

You can also take a look at all the information about the Local Connections Fund online.

The grant may be available to you, even if you have already had National Lottery Funding of another kind.
