Lions needed… to do amazing things!

Ever wished you could do something amazing to help somebody in need?

If you want to make a positive difference to others, put smiles on faces, come to the rescue at somebody’s hour or need or just bring the community together, why not think about joining the Leigh Lions – it’s what they are all about.

Who are Leigh Lions?

Leigh Lions are currently a small band of people, but already they’re making a big difference locally.

Part of Lions International, the group describe themselves as “ordinary people who do amazing things to help people who need it.”

They have previously fundraised for defibrillators to be installed at Wigan Hospital, helped people who’ve lost everything in house fires and supported a family with a severely epileptic child, ensuring they had all the specialist equipment they needed. They also stepped in when a local Cadet unit in Leigh were burgled, helping them replace euipment so the group could continue to meet.

Leigh Lions gave presents to local children at Christmas.

Jennifer Curry is the President of Leigh Lions, who also work in Lowton and Golborne.

She explains: “Our Motto is ‘We Serve’ – that means we do nice things to help people. It could be making afternoon teas, fundraising, organising fetes or carnivals.

“We donate to Guide Dogs for the Blind, Dogs for the Deaf, Food Banks, and the Wigan and Leigh Hospice. We’ve bought defibrillators to be installed locally, and at Christmas we served Christmas dinners for 45 to 50 homeless people.

“We’re looking to recruit now volunteers like us. We are ordinary people who do amazing things to help people who need our help.

“We’re also a really sociable group – so don’t be lonely, give us a ring and come and visit one of our meetings.”
