Something spectacular is coming to Pennington Flash

by Editor Lowton and Golborne News

Visitors to Pennington Flash will be able to experience the earth, as they’ve never seen it before.

As part of Wigan Council’s ‘Light Night’, a stunning piece of artwork will ‘land’ in the Flash from next Friday!

The illuminated artwork is a piece by internationally acclaimed artist, Luke Jerram. His new ‘Floating Earth’ will be drawing visitors to Pennington Flash for 10 days from Friday, 19 November 2021.

Known for his large-scale public artwork, Luke Jerram’s ‘Floating Earth’ is a 10m diameter replica of planet Earth, projected with imagery taken directly from NASA. The earth will float on Pennington Flash for 10 days – giving the impression that it has impossibly fallen from the sky.

This event is part of ‘Light Night Wigan and Leigh’ – a programme of work celebrating two of the borough’s watercourses.

There’s also a ‘Trail of Light’ event at Wigan Pier

As well as this event at Pennington Flash, there will also be events taking place at Wigan Pier.

There, over two days (Friday, 19 and Saturday 20 November), you can explore the canal, towpath and locks by following a trail of light installations between Chapel Lane Bridge and Wigan Pier. Tickets are free but you need to book in advance.

Cllr Chris Ready, portfolio holder for culture at Wigan Council said: “This will be a really exciting and creative event held across two of our borough’s most iconic areas.

“The Floating Earth at Pennington Flash is set to be a particular highlight, giving Wigan residents, and beyond, the first chance to experience a new perspective on our place on the planet through this incredible vision of the Earth.”

Book your tickets to see the Floating Earth at Pennington Flash

I have ordered two tickets for the Light Show at PENNINGTON FLASH but the details are shown for WIGAN PIER.
THIS COULD CONFUSE visitors from outside the area. Otherwise thanks for the tickets. Keep safe.
